Why Prepare?
THE TIME IS NOW TO PREPARE FOR A SUDDEN EMERGENCY! THE NEXT TIME A DISASTER STRIKES YOUR HOME YOU MAY NOT HAVE MUCH TIME TO ACT! WE MUST HAVE THE TOOLS AND PLANS IN PLACE TO MAKE IT ON OUR OWN, AT LEAST FOR A PERIOD OF TIME NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE WHEN A DISASTER OCCURS.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP AN EMERGENCY CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR MOST DISASTERS, NATURAL OR MAN-MADE. PLAN IN ADVANCE WHAT YOU WILL DO IN AN EMERGENCY, DEVELOP A "FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS PLAN", CREATE A PLAN TO "SHELTER-IN-PLACE", CREATE AN "EVACUATION PLAN", AND GET A 72 HOUR "BOUNCE BAG".

Bounce Bag
These are the recommended supplies everyone should have in their 72- hour "Bounce Bag":
* Water- one gallon per person, per day for drinking & sanitation *Water purification kit *Food- at least a 3-5 day supply of non-perishable food *Battery-powered radio & extra batteries *Flashlight & extra batteries *First Aid Kit *Whistle *Filter mask and or Gas Mask *Tools- pliers, wrench, hammer etc. *Manual can opener for food *Unique family needs- prescription medication, infant formula, important documents. |
Shelter-In-PlaceCreating a Shelter in Place is very important if you see large amounts of debris in the air, or if your local authorities say the air is badly contaminated.
There are circumstances when staying put and creating a barrier between yourself and potentially contaminated air outside,Shelter-in-Place is sealing up your home. You will need the following: Duct Tape Plastic sheeting and/or garbage bags It is necessary to pre-cut the plastic sheets to fit your doors, windows, air conditioning units, clothes dryer, fireplace dampers, and air vents. Make sure each piece is several inches larger than the space you want to cover so that you can duct tape it flat against the wall. Understand that this is a temporary measure to create a barrier between you and the contaminated air. |

Severe Weather
Every state in the U.S. has experienced tornadoes and severe weather and although some more than others, everyone is at risk and should take steps to prepare for when severe weather strikes in your area. Knowing the most common weather hazards in your area, your vulnerability. and what actions you should take can save your life and others. Learn how to protect yourself and cope with extreme weather conditions by planning ahead. Discuss your ideas with your family then prepare an evacuation and emergency plan. Post the plan where everyone will see it.
Major Disasters
Here at G.Lee Inc. we make it our responsibility to protect the environment, the people, and the property of our community from the effects of disasters, both natural and man-made. Through education and communication we will try to provide meaningful and thorough information regarding hazards that may be detrimental to our society.
WILD FIRESTo protect yourself, it is important to understand the basic characteristics of fire. Fire spreads quickly; there is no time to gather valuables or make a phone call. In just two minutes, a fire can become life-threatening.
WHAT TO DO! GET PREPARED!
* Create and practice an evacuation plan * Make sure all smoke detectors are working * Crawl low to the ground if you see smoke * Do not grab at door knobs with out checking to see if it is hot * If your clothes catch on fire STOP, DROP,& ROLL. * Always have a fire extinguisher |
TERRORIST ATTACKSBiological agents are organisms or toxins that can kill or incapacitate people, livestock and crops. A biological attack is the deliberate release of germs or other biological substances that can make you sick. The three basic groups of biological agents that would likely be used as weapons are bacteria, viruses and toxins.
A chemical attack could come without warning. Signs of a chemical release include people having difficulty breathing; experiencing eye irritation; losing coordination; becoming nauseated; or having a burning sensation in the nose, throat and lungs. Also, the presence of many dead insects or birds may indicate a chemical agent release WHAT TO DO! GET PREPARED!

EARTHQUAKESAn earthquake is the sudden, rapid shaking of the earth, caused by the breaking and shifting of subterranean rock as it releases strain that has accumulated over a long time. When the accumulated energy grows strong enough, the plates break free.
WHAT TO DO! GET PREPARED!
* Create a communication plan and grab your 72 hour "BOUNCE BAG" * Secure any loose objects * Repair any defective electrical wiring * Fasten large items to the wall remove them from highly used areas * Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall * STOP, DROP, & HOLD ON until the shaking stops |
Other Catastrophic Disasters
There are many potential threats we could face unbeknownst to us. Depending on your circumstances and the nature of the emergency, the first important decision is whether you stay where you are or evacuate. You should understand and plan for both possibilities. Use common sense and available information, including what you are learning here, to determine if there is an immediate danger. In any emergency, local authorities may or may not immediately be able to provide information on what is happening and what you should do. Ask your employer about workplace policies regarding disasters and emergencies, including understanding how you will be provided emergency and warning information, evacuation and shelter plans. Contact your children’s school or day care center to discuss their disaster procedures
PANDEMICS
A pandemic flu occurs when a new flu virus appears in humans, spreads easily from person-to-person, causes serious illness, and moves across the globe. Flu Pandemics are caused by new flu viruses. Because the viruses are new, humans have little or no immunity to them, leading to a rapid disease spread from person to person..
Protect yourself and your family by:
* Constructing a "SHELTER-IN-PLACE" to eliminate exposure to the virus.
* Learn and practice respiratory etiquette.
* Avoid social gatherings, meetings, and traveling
* Stockpile your pantry
* Wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based gel.
* Collect Antibiotics.
* Get Healthy!

DIRTY BOMBS
A "dirty bomb" or "dirty nuke" is a radiological dispersion device {R.D.D}. An R.D.D combines a conventional explosive device — such as a bomb — with radioactive material. It is designed to scatter dangerous and sub-lethal amounts of radioactive material over a general area. The primary purpose of terrorist use of an R.D.D is to cause psychological fear and economic disruption. Some devices could cause fatalities from exposure to radioactive materials. Depending on the speed at which the area of the R.D.D detonation was evacuated or how successful people were able to get their "SHELTER-IN-PLACE" the number of deaths and injuries from an R.D.D might not be substantially greater than from a conventional bomb explosion.
There is no way of knowing how much warning time there will be before an attack by terrorists using a Radiological Dispersion Device (R.D.D), so being prepared in advance and knowing what to do and when, is important. To prepare for an R.D.D event, you should do the following.

E.M.P MELTDOWN
Space weather can produce electromagnetic fields that induce extreme currents in wires, disrupting power lines, and even causing wide-spread blackouts. Severe space weather also produces solar energetic particles, which can damage satellites used for commercial communications, global positioning, intelligence gathering, and weather forecasting. Sudden bursts of plasma and magnetic field structures from the sun's atmosphere called coronal mass ejections (C.M.E) together with sudden bursts of radiation, or solar flares, causes space weather effects here on Earth. Extreme space weather could potentially cause damage to critical infrastructure – especially the electric grid.
Protect yourself and your family by:
*Construct a "BOUNCE BAG" for this particular scenario {generator, solar panels, ex. batt., solar lights}
* Purchase a transistor radio, or CB.
* Buy a radiation detector
* Construct a "SHELTER-IN-PLACE" if leaving is not an option!

The Final Thought!
Once the SHTF there will be no preparing, that's why it is important to cover every emergency contingency plan you may have to familiarize yourself and family with so in the event of a unforeseen circumstance you will be ready. Many people are preparing their self and family, training one another, making sure everyone is abreast of the emergency plans, this is what will be the difference in life and death. Make sure your involved with others in your community, because believe it or not you will need other people, under these circumstances it will be wise to connect with other like minded people because survival is much better with more numbers, to help defend yourself.
